Projekt: Zahlentheorie

Thema: From Caesar to Quantum: The Mathematics of Secrets

Sumaia Saad-Eddin

How can two people exchange a secret message while millions of others are connected to the same network? Why do online banking, smartphones, and digital payments rely on mathematics? And could tomorrow's quantum computers break the encryption that protects our digital world?

In this workshop, you will become both a code maker and a code breaker. Starting with historical ciphers, you will work on a series of mathematical problems: breaking secret messages, developing encryption methods, and investigating the mathematical ideas that make modern cryptography possible.

The journey leads to one of the most exciting challenges in modern science: quantum computing. Through further problems, you will explore why quantum computers could threaten today's encryption and how mathematics can help us design secure methods for the quantum era.
