Thema: Geometry Reconstruction and Simulations
Agyrios Petras
Medical imaging provides the foundation for modern diagnosis and therapy planning. In this project, we will explore how geometries of organs or tissues can be reconstructed from medical images such as MRI or CT scans. Using mathematical modeling and computer-based methods, we will learn how to transform image data into digital models that can be used to simulate medical treatments — for example, blood flow in vessels or the delivery of medication. Special emphasis will be placed on the interpretation of the simulation results, helping us understand how modeling can support real medical decisions. Students will use open-source software for the generation of digital geometries from real medical data, and will apply linear algebra and numerical methods to connect with virtual simulations. Prior knowledge is welcome, but not required.
